Several dermal filler products are FDA approved. The most common and popular are Calcium Hydroxyapatite, Hyaluronic Acid, Ply-L-lactic Acid, Polymethylmethacrylate, and Autologous fat injections.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite or CaHA

CaHA is a natural substance found mostly in human bones. The CaHA filler is a thicker filler than others, and it tends to last longer, at about 12 months.

Hyaluronic Acid or HA

HA is a natural substance in the skin. HA fillers are very soft. They result in just a temporary fix that lasts for about 6 to 12 months. There are several different fillers, such as Juvéderm, Restylane, and Belotero Balance.

Ply-L-lactic Acid

This filler is biocompatible. It is safe to use in the body. Better known as “collagen stimulators,” this filler acts as a mechanism that smooths out lines and induces natural collagen production. It is typically used to treat severe wrinkles, and it can last more than 2 years.

Polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA

PMMA is a synthetic, biocompatible substance. It is safe to use on the skin. When injected, the PMMA filler acts as a tiny ball under the skin to provide support.

Autologous Fat Injections

Also known as Facial Fat Grafting, this injection is the only dermal filler that requires surgery. The results are more permanent. During this treatment, your fat is taken from your body and injected into another area of the face to restore volume.
